WORK COMPLETES ON THE NEW LUBBESTHORPE PRIMARY SCHOOL
Work has this week completed on the first £7million primary school at the pioneering New Lubbesthorpe development.
The 420-pupil school will be one of three on the £1billion new community. It sits on Tay Road at the heart of what will soon become the development’s central square where further shops and community facilities are planned.
The school building has now been handed over to Leicestershire County Council which has appointed the OWLS Academy Trust to run it when it opens on the 2ndSeptember.
The Drummond Estate is behind the New Lubbesthorpe development to the west of Leicester, which will ultimately comprise up to 5,000 new homes, further primary schools and a secondary school, community facilities and an employment park adjacent to the M1/M69. The development will also provide 325 acres of new parklands for local residents to enjoy.
Martin Ward from Mather Jamie and a spokesman for the Drummond Estate said; “This exciting development is already home to many families and the delivery of the first primary school is a major milestone in providing a wide variety of new facilities on the site.
“New Lubbesthorpe is fast becoming a thriving community, offering a new place to live, work, learn and visit.”
Designed to complement the adjacent residential development, the school was built by Clegg Construction, on behalf of the Drummond Estate. It follows the delivery of a new £15million motorway bridge offering greater connectivity and the first phase of 500 homes.
The architects were GSS Architecture and the project is being managed for Drummond Estate by Bentley Project Management.
Peter Merry CEO from the OWLS Academy Trust said; “The quality of provision for the children, their families and staff is excellent and we look forward to the fantastic opportunities that are afforded by such a wonderful new school. We now have beautiful, spacious and light classrooms, additional exciting learning spaces, food technology room, creative arts room, library, soft play, kitchen, garden area and outdoor spaces.
